tasting notes

Sierra de Gredos has rapidly emerged as one of Spain’s most exciting and distinctive wine regions. Located just outside Madrid, where the provinces of Ávila, Madrid, and Toledo meet, this mountainous area is celebrated for its dramatic, high-altitude vineyards. Vines are often perched between 600 and 1,200 meters above sea level, dug into ancient granite and sandy soils.
The undisputed star of Gredos is Garnacha (Grenache). Unlike the heavy, high-alcohol style often associated with the grape, Gredos Garnacha is remarkably ethereal. The combination of extreme altitude, cool night temperatures, and old vines yields wines that are pale in color but intensely aromatic. They are frequently compared to fine Pinot Noir or Nebbiolo, offering vibrant notes of wild berries, white pepper, and a profound, chalky minerality.
In addition to its reds, the region produces exceptional white wines from the indigenous Albillo Real grape. These whites are textured and complex, featuring rich stone fruit flavors balanced by a crisp, saline finish. Driven by a passionate group of minimal-intervention, boutique winemakers, Sierra de Gredos has successfully transformed its rugged, forgotten landscape into a hotspot for world-class, terroir-driven viticulture.
